Frequently Asked Questions
What is SecondChanceMags.com?
It is a fun way to collect magazines cheaply and make
a bit of money from your lightly-used, store-bought magazines.
We sell lightly
read, near-perfect quality magazines
from the past two years (and some even older) to those who missed
buying them in the store,
to collectors, and to those who choose not to subscribe to magazines.
We buy newsstand-quality
magazines
from the past 24 months from those who want to make a bit of money from
their used magazines. We also cheerfully accept donations of
lightly-read magazines. We are New
England-based, but can do business anywhere.
Why don't you buy
newsmagazines?
They become out of date very quickly. But if there is demand for them,
we
may. We do occassionally sell weeklies (The New Yorker, for example)
but that is rare.
You sell some magazines for more than the
newsstand price. Why is that?
It's true that some magazines cost more than the cover price. We make
up for that by having RIDICULOUSLY LOW shipping charges (see below.)
Some used magazine Websites charge up to $17.00 for
last month's issues! Some eBay vendors charge far
less than we do,
but charge up to $8 for shipping. We're proud to be the most
reasonably priced Back Issue magazine site on the Internet.
Do you sell antique and
collectible magazines?
Yes. Most mags we have in stock date from before 1990, some are from
the 1940s. They are wonderful time capsules of their eras.
What is the condition of
your magazines?
We make no claims that the magazines we sell are rated "Very Good",
especially those from our Vintage
Vault (those older than 24 months ago.) Some have had the labels
torn from them, others have minor damage, usually odd folds. In our
Vintage Vault, we note severe damage that seems more than the
usual wear, and have already dropped the price accordingly. We also
draw attention to mags more pristine than expected, and many are. But
please don't expect a 1975 magazine to be "newstand fresh." We make
every effort to note pen marks, articles and coupons cut out, or folded
pages. 99% do not have this kind of damage, but
there is no guarantee by us, explicit or implied, that a magazine you
purchase will have no damage.

SELLING TO US?
How do I SELL magazines to
SecondChanceMags.com?
We only buy recent issue (2008)
magazines that are in
near-perfect condition. (Lightly used.)
And we really mean it. Leave labels ON the magazine.
Cutting a big square into
the front cover to get the label off will make it impossible to sell.
No inside pages must be torn out and no
writing should appear on any pages. Covers must not be damaged in any
way.
If any of these conditions are not met, your order will not be processed
and your magazines will not be returned. (See our full list of policies and
disclaimers.)
Here's how to sell them to us:
1. Browse the list of magazines we are currently buying,
located on our
Website.
2. Email us, noting name, month and year of the magazines
you're seeking to
sell to us.
3. Once the sale is accepted, either in full or in part,
your email will be
returned to you noting which
magazines we can purchase, and for what
price, along with a letter of
acceptance and an agreement to pay.
4. Print out the email (it serves as your receipt.)
5. Once magazines are received, you will receive payment.
As of May 1, 2008, we pay a flat $1.00 for every new (2008) magazine we
purchase. We pay more for classic magazines, by special arrangement
